Piano Lessons

Supportive and encouraging, I offer private piano lessons for students of all ages and levels, from beginners to professionals, from kids to adults.  Classical piano lessons tailored to individual needs, goals and style. Students are exposed to a wide range of a piano repertoire that covers a broad range of musical styles and have a positive, self-affirming experience throughout the music learning process.
As a music teacher, my goal is to create a supportive, encouraging and caring environment where I can help students understand music, learn how to practice efficiently, develop solid foundation in piano technique and help them to advance at their own pace.  I would like students to develop their own personal ideas of a musical work and be able to perform it convincingly and passionately.  Students experience their musicianship as a natural self-expression and develop the ability to progress independently.
Playing music both assists in children's development and enriches the lives of adults.  Playing the piano provides a source of enjoyment and recreation that students can have for the rest of their lives.  To acquire a long-lasting love, respect and understanding of music, as well as to retain music as a lifelong companion are the fundamental goals of Levin Piano Lab.

PIANO LESSONS FOR KIDS AND TEENS
At Levin Piano Lab, I am dedicated to keeping piano lessons fun and engaging.  Both supportive and encouraging, I offer private lessons to students of all ages and levels, from beginners to very advanced and enjoy working with youngsters as well as adults.  I believe in offering the highest quality, comprehensive approach to musical studies, including exposing students to the theoretical and historical aspects of music, as well as the joys of performing.

LESSONS FOR PIANO BEGINNERS
What is the best age to start piano classes?  Basically, whenever your child is showing interest.  Children as young as four years old can benefit from and have fun in lessons.  When teaching kids, I incorporate singing, movement and rhythm games to keep the classes enjoyable and to take advantage of their natural tendency to learn through play.  I encourage parental involvement in the lessons and especially during the practice times of young children to help them follow through on the goals we have established for that week.

PIANO LESSONS FOR BEGINNERS ARE FOCUSED ON:
- Good posture and hand position
- Recognizing and learning musical symbols
- Developing sight reading skills
- Music theory, rhythm and harmony
- Playing “by ear” and elements of composition
As students master the basics, they are encouraged to learn ever more challenging and intriguing music from a wide range of repertoire, including Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary music as well as popular and jazz-inspired styles.  In addition, students will explore musical structure, composition and music history as well as the joys of performing.

INTERMEDIATE and ADVANCED PIANO LESSONS
Piano lessons for intermediate and advanced students will focus on expanding and cultivating piano technique, repertoire, theory and musical refinement.
An important part of learning to play the piano is practicing.  We spend time in the lessons talking about how to practice effectively and efficiently.  The students leave each week with specific goals to accomplish and strategies for how to accomplish them so that practice time is focused and productive.  This leads to less frustration, more rapid advancement and a greater sense of pride in themselves.
Another important aspect of playing the piano is performing for others.  Students are given the opportunity to participate in informal recitals and are encouraged to share their music with family and friends on a regular basis.  For those students who wish to pursue a more rigorous program, I will be happy to help them prepare for competitions and auditions.
I believe that my role as a music teacher is to treat each student as an individual and tailor lessons to his or her specific needs and interests as well as learning style.  I want my students to develop their own personal ideas of musical works and to be able to perform them convincingly and passionately.  To do this, I try to create a positive learning environment where students feel supported and secure and, at the same time, urged to move forward in greater mastery of technique, understanding of music, and personal and professional growth.

PIANO LESSONS FOR ADULTS
It is never too late to learn to play the piano or return to lessons that you took as a child.  All you need is a piano or keyboard and some free time, plus some patience with yourself. Piano lessons are tailored to the individual needs, goals and learning styles of adult students.  Although classical music is emphasized, repertoire from Broadway, popular music, jazz and hymns can easily be incorporated into the lessons. Personalized lessons in Reading Music, Music Theory, Harmony and Music History are shaped around the interests and needs of each adult student. At Levin Piano Lab, I believe in providing the highest quality, comprehensive approach to musical studies, including exposing students to the theoretical and historical aspects of music, as well as the joys of performing.
